Trout season is underway on the Manistee with a smattering of hatches that can be present at any time of the day. It’s been a while since we have had any rain and the rivers are running clear with levels ideal for both floating or the wading angler. This time
Spring is here and although the sun is here, we are still waiting for water temps to come up just a little to get fish fired up to chase bugs on the surface.

Yesterday, below Mio, I walked so much that I saw two different guides doing two separate floats and I STILL couldn’t find a rising fish. In fact, the best rising fish I saw rose to a stocked rainbow. How do I know? Because I was on the bank watching that

Quick Update: CF Burkheimer Test Cast: It looks like we will be test casting our first batch of custom-Gates Burkheimer fly rods on Saturday from 9 am – 1 pm. The rods should be here by tomorrow afternoon. We are very excited. I’ve cast some “Burkies” — and loved them
