For all the times I've been down here, this was just the second time I've fished it. Greg S. and I launched his boat just after noon and hit up what looked to be a prime run for a few hours. He landed one pretty soon after starting out. I got completely skunked. I used an indy rig which kept me from loosing too many flies, but also probably kept the fly out of the zone. i think on the day, the fish were stacked up just a few feet beyond the boil of the dam. The boat next to us cuaght what seemed like a dozen steelies during the same time. They casted right into the boil and would hook up just as it left the boil. Of course, spawn might have something to do with it.

I arranged to meet Greg at the fish ladder in downtown Grand Rapids before work to fish for some spawning salmon. It was a very warm morning. He got there early and left a note on his car showing that he was across the river. Reluctantly I waded all the way across the river. Took about twenty minutes with the strong current and darkness. I didn't find him. Fished a little over there. Saw a few salmon leap out of the river. A few guys had caught some. Apparantly there's a deep hole nearby that someone drowned in a month ago. I got tired of fishing with the crowd and headed back across. Then, I found Greg. He was further downstream, right in the middle. He never made it to the other side. When I talked with him at the car, he went right where he planned on going. Bad map drawer.
